Aland’s most beautiful stamp issue of 2025
By Linn’s Staff
A set of four franking labels depicting four ocean species has been named Aland’s most beautiful stamp issue of 2025.
Designed by Swedish artist Bo Lundwall and issued Feb. 3, 2025, the four Treasures of the Sea labels show the following species found in the waters around Aland: bladderwrack, blue mussel, three-spined stickleback and jellyfish.
“The sea is always present in Aland, and beneath the water surface a fascinating world of life is hidden. Bo Lundwall’s art has a distinctive quality that feels both vivid and scientifically accurate, which is clearly reflected in the result,” Aland Post head of stamps Johanna Finne said.
Lundwall received flowers and a diploma for his win. “I was delighted to receive the news that collectors appreciate my stamp designs,” Lundwall said. “This recognition inspires me in my artistic work.” He also won Aland’s most beautiful stamp contest in 2023, 2019 and 2013.
Taking second place in the 2025 contest was the Sept. 19 Dove of Peace embroidered stamp issued jointly with the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and several other postal administrations.
Third place went to a March 19 issue with an illustration by Amanda Chanfreau that shows water and a fish in the lower half and sky with an island in the upper half. The design of the fish continues past the water’s surface to become the island.
The annual vote has been a tradition in Aland since 1995.
The Treasures of the Sea franking labels have been discontinued, and the Dove of Peace embroidered stamp is sold out. Other products from Aland Post can be ordered online at https://alandstamps.com/en/collections/2025.
